Hello! My name is Taylah, I am an Indigenous Textiles Designer & Artist. My family come from Naarm (Melbourne). I grew up in such a beautiful place surrounded by ferns and lush trees has influenced my love of plants and my practice. My practice is heavily influenced by my heritage and culture, through art and design. I love plants, cats and all things art.
I focus on lots of different subject matters in my art and design practise, they tend to overlap as both of these areas complement each other well. Storytelling is something that always unifies all areas of my practice as it is embedded in my identity. Through my storytelling, I seek to evoke emotion and happiness to my customers and those viewing my artwork. I want you to feel connected to my art but also to the world around you.
I work very closely with other Indigenous women in business to ensure we create a community for ourselves to thrive in an everchanging and challenging world. Through collaboration and community, I believe we can make an impact on the world.
I studied a Bachelor of Arts (Textile Designs) at RMIT, I majored in knitting but also made creations using traditional basket weaving. I have a strong focus on 'slow design', moving away from the fast fashion model that is rife through in today's Western world.
